BLACKOUT
by Van Walker
Well i’m on my way cos it’s time to go
And why it’s got to be this way i’m not to know
But ya best accept it
Best not to fight
For if we do there will be hell to pay alright
Well it’s stormy weather & the sky is grey
And the rain is falling, it’s been falling past few days
And the night time's comin'
It’s still raining hard
And the river’s burst it banks & the skies been ripped apart
And the sun’s been drowned
Well the water’s rising & the powers blown
Better light some candles & drink whiskey to keep warm
For we ain’t goin’ nowhere
At least not tonight
In a flood & black out, baby, drink up & sit tight
For it’s warm at the bar & we got a guitar
So we’ll stay right where we are

PICTURE FRAME
by Van Walker
I got a frame without a picture
I got a roof that has no walls
For when i think back to when i met ya
I can’t recall
And i got a pain that has no name
And I have a fear that i can’t place
For tho I love her
And she still haunts me the same
I can’t even remember her face
Now i’m sat her staring at this window
The pane of glass is all i see
It’s like her reflection has become condensation
Somehow been vaporized from me
Somehow i lost that memory
Well nothin’ comes of nothing
I have the effect but not the cause
I forgot something
I just can’t recall what it was
So I got a frame without a picture
Under this roof that has no walls
Now when i think back to when i met ya
I can’t recall
And sometimes the same lips that suffocate you
Resuscitate you
And sometimes the same lips that resuscitate you
Suffocate you
And sometimes the same lips that suffocate you
Resuscitate you

ANNA MARY
by Van Walker
In a world full of rock she is a bright jewel
And I was really starting to go under till I found you
Thru these windows we can see but never really know
Why is it every time I catch it I let it go?
Why is it every time we try to love it ends in pain?
Everything changes but everything changes back again
And human bonds too cruel to analyse
We cage a pretty bird but she’s only pretty while she flies
So gimme something that I don’t need & I don’t want
Gimme something that I ain’t seen but I ain’t got
Take me thru the world’s sweet mystery
And bring me back with eyes that won’t fear thee
Misery & doubt always will out
But before i’m old & grey
Love will have it’s way
She was born in a barn on a bright blue dress
Layed on the straw & they tried not to make a mess
She was born on a day when the gods were high
When she was born the sky was a bright blue eye
Ah so gimme something that I don’t need & I don’t want Gimme something that I ain’t seen but I ain’t got
One sweet kiss from her lips could transform this toad
But it fills my heart with the pain of a loving load
Misery & doubt always will out
But before i fade away
Love will have it’s way

KNICKERS
by Van Walker
Don’t get excited
At the first sight of rain
You’ll just be disappointed
When it dries up again
And don’t get your knickers
Tied in a knot
For how can we know, baby
All that we forgot
So don’t get kerfuffled
About what you can’t control
Pretty feathers get ruffled
And that’s the way that it goes
But you are my baby
And I love you
So don’t go ballistic
What you hear ’bout your man
Hate & fear undermine us
If we believe that they can
So don’t do your nana
If I walk out the door
You know I’ll be back soon, mama
Begging for more
For you are my baby
And I love you

LIKE A THIEF
by Van Walker
Friend of mine
I’m feeling so uptight
But you wont hear me cry
I’ll just leave in the night
Oh, for I’m beginning to understand
I’m a disagreeable man
I’m drunk & I can’t compete
So i’ll fade away into the night like a thief
I loved you well
Tho you could hardly tell
I’m wrapped up in my shell
I made both our lives hell
Till eventually
You lost all repsect for me i have none myself you see &
That’s why I lie and I cheat
And I fade away into the night like a thief
For your golden rule
Well, mine don't apply to you Don’t judge me lest I judge you
I just do what I have to do
And baby we both know that you do too
Friend of mine
I’m feeling so uptight
But you won't hear me cry
I’ll just leave in the night

PROMISED LAND
by Van Walker
One said to another “Help me out.
The sky is liftin' and I’m sinkin down.
Once there was a time you looked up to me
But my vertigo was simply vanity.”
Well, one said to another “Who are you?
And what do you expect me to do?
I’ve spent my whole life trying to keep from the ground.
Don’t need no loser trying to drag me down."
"For you and all your kind expect a free ride.
Close your eyes and hold out your hand.
You get what you give in the promise land .”
Well, one said to another, “Hear me out.
I know it’s my fault my life’s headed south
But I follow leaders and every golden rule,
Without exception to them I was true.”
Well, one said to another, “Better hope and pray.
No point waiting on no judgement day.
You got yourself there, you can get yourself out.
Might even learn what it’s been all about."
"For what do you want from me? Nothing here is free.
Close your eyes and hold out your hand.
You get what you give in the promised land."
One said to another, “Protect my heart.
Take care of my family. Don’t let them starve.
If only i could travel back in time
I would give to you all that which once was mine.”
Well, one said to another, “I gotta go.
There’s many a place that this here face must be shown.”
And as he was leaving and he turned around
He lost his footing and he fell right down.
Well one said to another, “It goes to show.”
And he stepped atop his head and climbed out that hole.
“Who’d have thought it? Who’d have dreamed it could be??
The tears of this world are in constant quantity."
"We both could have had it all,
But you were only happy while I’s down in that hole.
Now, close your eyes and hold out your hand.
You get what you give in the promised land."
"For you could have it all,
But it don’t mean nothing if you can’t let it go.
So, close your eyes & hold out your hand.
You get what you give in the promised land."

LOVE FATE
by Van Walker
My friend, look to the sky
Picture our home when we die
And live each day among the signs
That never tell but never lie
This mystery can’t understand
Curiosity of a blind man
Who counts his time till time is done
Goes back to join thy kingdom come
For nothing is right & nothing is wrong
We’re livin the life, we’re singin' the song
You get what you give, go back were ya from
But nothing is right & nothing is wrong
In this world in which we live
It has to be the way it is
And in the end you can take it or leave
The highs & lows & inbetween
For nothing is right & nothing is wrong
We’re livin the life, we’re singin' the song
You get what you give, go back were ya from
But nothing is right & nothing is wrong
For nothing is right & nothing is wrong
We’re livin the life, we’re singin' the song
Summer's still here, summer long gone
But nothing is right & nothing is wrong

MIDNIGHT SUN
by Van Walker
Man, the ice is bright tonight
And the sky's as blue as the early morning light
Wish I could feed upon the light
But the light is cursed to feed on darkness till it dies
And i’m running out of time
I gave you my eyes still you can’t see why I am blind
But a time will come
Here in the land of the midnight sun
The sun’s they circle empty space
And my own dark solitude only illuminates
The happy sunburnt crew you’re with
Tho the giving hand gets calloused every time it gives
For I live in my own light
And drink back into myself the flames that break from me tonight
And I catch sleep on the run
Here in the land of the midnight sun
